CBSE Class 8/9 - Science - Rare Species of Animals Found in National Parks (#cbsenotes)(#eduvictors)

Wildlife of India is a great natural heritage. Efforts are being made to protect and  preserve biological diversity of our country under various programs. India has preserved vast tracts of natural habitats, birds and plants in its 551 Wildlife Sanctuaries, 96 National Parks, 25 Wetlands and 15 Biosphere Reserves spread almost in all the states of India.

The purpose of establishing national parks is “to conserve the natural and historic objects and the wild life and to provide for the enjoyment of the same in such manner and by such means as will leave them unimpaired for the enjoyment of future generations.”

A state of being well enough to function well physically, mentally and socially.

WHO defined health as ‘a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity’"

Disease:
Lack of feeling of ease or distress due to impairment of health or a condition of abnormal functioning or structural disorder.

Hygiene :
Condition and practices that help to maintain health and prevent the spread of diseases.

CBSE Class 9 - Chemistry - Structure Of Atom (Worksheet) (#cbsenotes)(#eduvictors)
An atom is the smallest indivisible unit of an element.. Modern chemistry began with eighteenth-century discoveries leading to the formulation of two basic laws of chemical combination, the law of conservation of mass and the law of constant composition (definite proportions). Later it led to the development of various atomic models and discoveries of sub-atomic particles. Here is a worksheet based on NCERT Chapter 4 to assess your knowledge about structure of atoms.

CBSE Class 9 - Science - Improvement in Food Resources - Study Notes (#cbsenotes)(#eduvictors)

Improvement in Food Resources

Study Notes
CBSE Class 9 - Science - Improvement in Food Resources - Study Notes (#cbsenotes)(#eduvictors)

Food is essential for all living organisms to live. We depend on plants and animals for food. The increase in population has created much demand for food. It is important that we should increase food production without degrading our environment and disturbing the balances maintaining it. Hence there is a need for sustainable practices in agriculture and animal husbandry.

Improvement in crop yields
CBSE Class 9 - Science - Improvement in Food Resources - Study Notes (#cbsenotes)(#eduvictors)

Different crops require different climatic conditions, temperature and photoperiods for their growth and completion of their life cycle. There are some cops which are grown in rainy season, called the kharif crops which extend from June to October. Kharif crops include paddy, soyabean, maize, cotton, green gram and black gram. Rabi crops are grown in the winter season which extends from November to April. Rabi crops include wheat, gram, peas and linseed. The major groups of activities for improving crop yields can be classified as –
- crop variety improvement,
- crop production improvement and
- crop protection management.

Cell Biology - 7 Points about Plasmolysis

Plasmolysis vs Flaccid vs Turgid
Credits: Wikimedia, Author: LadyOfHats

1. When a living plant cell loses water through osmosis there is shrinkage or contraction of the contents of the cell away from the cell wall. This phenomenon is known as plasmolysis
(plasma → fluid; lysis → disintegration, decomposition).

2. Only living cells, and not dead cells, are able to absorb water by osmosis.

3. Cell walls permit the cells of plants, fungi and bacteria to withstand very dilute [hypotonic] external media without shrinkage.

CBSE Class 9 - Chemistry - Matter in Surroundings - Short Questions Answers (#cbsenotes)(#eduvictors)

Short Questions Answers

Q1: Define matter.

Answer: Anything that has mass and occupies space is called matter.

Q2: Write your observation and conclusion for the following:
(a) When few marbles are put in a glass half filled with water.
(b) Ice is kept at room temperature.

Answer:
(a) Take some marbles and put them into the water of glass tumbler one by one. After some time you will notice that the water level crosses the mark and rises. This is because the marbles occupy space. Again weigh the glass with the marbles. You will find that the second mass is greater than the first one. This proves that marbles have mass.
