Answer:
 (i) The rain forests are depleting: The development activities like urbanization, industrialization etc. are leading to the gradual destruction of the biological diverse rain forests. It is estimated that a large area of the rain forest has been disappearing annually in Amazon Basin.

(ii) Paddy is grown in Ganga- Bramaputra plains: This plain is very fertile. The monsoon brings rain from mid-June to mid-September. The summer is hot and winter is cool. The flat land and alluvial soil provide excellent condition for growing crops especially paddy. Paddy requires sufficient water, and in this region amount of rainfalls is high.
