To restrain

Court restrains publication and sale of book on Ramdev (सीमित करना, नियंत्रित करना)


meaning: prevent someone from doing something;


Examples:
1. He could barely restrain his anger.
2. He was restrained and kept in dingy cell.





To stress

Jaitely stresses balance between ease of business and preventing misuse of firms.

meaning: to give special importance to something (महत्व देना)


Examples:
1. The Counselor stressed that faithfulness is very important in marriage.
2. She feels more stressed due to over work.


Aquittal

Hyderabad blas case aquittal: couldn't prove conspiracy, lack of enough evidence.


meaning: the decision of a court that someone is not guilty (दोषमुक्ति)

Examples:
1. The case resulted in acquittal of the defendant.
2. Aquittal of Salman Khan in Chinkara poaching trial surprised everyone.



To intimidate

Don't be intimidated by China: India to Bhutan

meaning: to frighten or threaten someone (धमकाना)

Examples:
1. North Korea has been trying to intimidate South Korea by verbal threats.
2. He was intimidating shop owners when he was arrested.



To siphon off

Bihar NGOs 'siphons' Rs 350 cr of govt. funds...

meaning: dishonestly take money ( बेइमानी से निकालना)
(Note siphon means to remove liquid from a container by pulling from high container to lower container). 'Shiphon off' is a phrasal verb.

Examples:
1. When it was discovered he was siphoning off money from the company's account, he lost his job.
2. Siphoning off petrol from motocycles is very common in this hostel.
