Q1: In ratio a : b, a is called as _______ or ________.

Q2: In ratio a : b, b is called as _______ or ________.

Q3: Express 75 : 125 in its simplest term.

Q4: Express 24:36 in its simplest form.

Q5: Find the ratio of 3 days to 30 hours

Q6: Divide ₹840 between Ramesh and Suresh in the ratio 5:7.

Q7: Cost of an eraser is 70 paisa and the cost of a pencil is ₹2.10. What is the ratio of their costs in simplest form?

Q8: The duplicate ratio of a : b is __________.

Q9: The compound ratio of two ratios a : b and c : d is _________.

Q10: If A : B = 2 : 3 and B : C = 4 : 17, then find A : B : C.

Answers:

1. first term or antecedent

2. second term or consequent

3. Factors of 75 = 3 × 5 × 5

Factors of 125 =  5 × 5 × 5

$75 : 125 = \frac{75}{125} = \frac{3 × 5 × 5}{5 × 5 × 5}$

= $\frac{3}{5}$ (Answer)

4. HCF of 24 and 36 is 12.

24 : 36 = $\frac{24}{36} = \frac{24 ÷ 12}{36 ÷ 12}$

= $\frac{2}{3}$  (Answer)

5. 3 days : 30 hours = 3 × 24 hours : 30 hours

= $\frac{24}{10} = \frac{12}{5}$

= 12:5 (Answer)

6. Sum of ratio terms = 5 + 7 = 12

Ramesh Share = $\frac{5}{12} \times 840 = 5 \times 70 = ₹350$

Suresh Share = $\frac{7}{12} \times 840 = 7 \times 70 = ₹490$

7. Cost of an eraser = 70 paisa

   Cost of a pencil  = ₹2.10 = 2.10 × 100 paisa = 210 paisa

   ∴ Cost of eraser : Cost of Pencil = 70 : 210

     = $\frac{70}{210} = \frac{1}{3}$

     = 1 : 3  (Answer)

8. $a^2 : b^2$

9. ac : bd

10. Given, A : B = 2 : 3 and B : C = 4 : 17

Now, multiply each term of the ratio 4 : 17 by $\frac{3}{4}$ to make its first term equal to 3.

⇒ B : C = $4 \times \frac{3}{4} : 17 \times \frac{3}{4}$

B : C = $3 : \frac{51}{4}$

∴ A:B:C = $2 3: \frac{51}{4}$ = 8:12:51 (Answer)
