Khaill Gibrain, a Lebanese poet and writer. In his young age, he settled in America. The style of his poems s very formal and it offers a deep insight into various facts of human life. 'The Prohet' his one of the famous works.
Summary:
The poem is an autobiography of the rain. The poem consists of 10 stanzas. The rain talks about its arrival (birth), how it lives on the earth and sky and clouds and finally about its departure.
The tiny drops of the rain emerge from the heart of the sea and it announces its arrival by the roar of the thunder. It is like a dotted silver thread dropping from the heavens and joins earth and the sky. It descends to the earn and there mother nature embraces it to beautify flowers and valleys.
Rain says that it is a messenger between the field and the cloud and brings the love letters of each to the other. Then It departs after it has quenched the thirst of the parched earth and relieved the clouds of its heaviness. The rainbow announces its departure.
The life cyle of the rain is like a human one. It is born out of sighs, spreads laughter and descends like tears. It ties the earth and heaven in a spiritual bond, like a God, granting all wishes.
Central Idea:
The rain has been personified as a source of relief to the clouds and it preludes joy to the earth and flowers. The poem brings celebration and its presence spreads love and reunion.
