Answer: People as a resource refers to a country is working for population in terms of their existing productive skills and abilities.
⒜ It is the human resource which converts all other resources like land, capital, natural resources etc. into useful products.

Answer:
⒜ When the existing human resource is further developed by becoming more educated and healthy. It is termed as human capital formation.
⒝ It acts to the productive capacity of the country as educated, trained and healthy people earn higher incomes.
Question 3: Why is human resource considered to be the most important resource?
Answer: Human resource is considered to be the most important resource because:
⒜ Land resources and capital cannot become useful on its own. Human resource can be trained to perform any task for which it is required.
⒝ They transform the material available in our environment into resources and use them.
Question 4: How can a large population be transformed into a productive asset? Name the country which has been invested in human resources.
Answer:
A large population can be transformed into a productive asset by:
⒜ Inviting in education including primary secondary higher and vocational education.
⒝ Providing proper medical and health care facilities.
⒞ Imparting requisite skills and training.
For example, Japan has invested in Human Resource Development although it is lacking in natural resources. It is one of the developed countries of the world.
Question 5: Why are women employed in low paid work?
Answer:
⑴ Education and skills are the two major determinants of earnings of an individual in the market.
⑵ Majority of women have little education and do not possess any skill or training. As such they find work in low paid jobs.
⑶ Women with higher education skill and training are paid higher wages at par with men.
Question 6: Why is male literacy rate more than female literacy rate in India?
Answer: The male literacy rate is more than female literacy rate in India because:
① Cultural Reasons:
The education of male is given preference over the education of female.
② Division of Work
Since India is a patriarchal society, men are considered as earning members of the family while women are usually associated with domestic and household responsibilities.
Question 7: List a few indicators which determine the quality of population?
Answer: A few indicators which determine the quality are:
⑴ Educational level indicated by literacy, rate gross enrollment ratio, School dropout ratio and net attendance ratio.
⑵ Health status is depicted by life expectancy, birth rate, death rate and infant mortality rate etc.
⑶ Training and skills imparted to people.
Question 8: What is the difference between economic and non-economic activities?
Answer:
① Economic activities:
Those activities which result in a production of good and services and add value to the national income are called economic activities.
For example production of goods government service at sector,
② Non-economic activities:
Those activities which do not result in earnings or do not add value to the national income are called non-economic activities.
For example, women cooking food and doing other domestic work.
