Pollutants: 
A substance which causes pollution is known as pollutant. Pollutants can be solid, liquid or gaseous substances, present in higher concentration. It can be produced due to human activities or natural happenings.


Atmospheric Pollution:
The atmosphere that surrounds the earth is not of the same thickness at different heights. Atmospheric pollution is generally studied as tropospheric and stratospheric pollution.

Consequent upon the feedback received from the various stakeholders and subsequent deliberation in the meetings of Committee of Courses of the Board and the subject experts, CBSE has decided to change the question paper pattern for English (Core) subject for the current session (2018-2019).

In Section A,  the No. of Passages has been reduced to two. 

In Passage 1, there will be: 

• 5-MCQs (1 mark each) 
• 9-Very short answer type questions including 3 Qs on vocabulary for 1 mark each 
• 3-Short answer type question (2 marks each)

The Passage - 2, there will be 2 Long answer type questions (5 marks each).

Section A will have 19 questions of 30 marks while the question paper will have 35 as total number of questions. Here follows the sample question paper and marking scheme of English (Core):

Meaning of AIDS

✤ The word AIDS stands for Acquired Immuno Deficiency Syndrome. This means a deficiency of the immune system, acquired during the lifetime of an individual indicating that it is not a congenital disease [disease or abnormality present from birth]. ‘Syndrome’ means a group of symptoms.


✤ AIDS was first reported in 1981 and in the last twenty-five years or so, it has spread all over the world.

✤ Luc Montagnier, Françoise Barré-Sinoussi, and their colleagues at the Pasteur Institute in Paris were the first to report the discovery of the virus now called the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) associated with AIDS.
