Look at the following sentences:

1. The house we moved into is absolutely beautiful.
2. All morning Lencho — who knew his fields intimately — looked at the sky.
3. The woman, who was preparing supper, replied, "Yes, God willing".

The italicised part gives non-essential information about a person or thing are called relative clauses. The words 'Who', 'which' and 'that' as subjects of a relative clause are relative pronouns.

Broadly there are two types of relative clauses:

1. Defining or identifying clause.
If we remove relative clause, meaning of the sentence changes significantly.
e.g. The woman who visited me in the hospital was very kind. 
 The woman was very kind. (removing relative clause changes context significantly.)

In a bid to curtail the big syllabus and reduce burden on class 9 and 10 standard students, the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) and Central Board Secondary Education (CBSE) have deleted three chapters from Social Science books.

Chapters deleted from Class 9 NCERT textbook, India and the Contemporary World - I are:

1. Peasants and Farmers from Section II: Livelihoods, Economics and Societies
2. History and Sport: The Story of Cricket from Section III: Everyday Life, Culture and Politics
3. Clothing: A Social History from Section III: Everyday Life, Culture and Politics


Chapters deleted from Class 10 Syllabus for 2019-20 board examinations are:

1. Forest and Wildlife: Will not be asked in final board examination. It will be assessed in the Periodic Tests only

After the statement of the reduction of NCERT syllabus from 2019-20 session, CBSE  students have gained big relief. According to CBSE officials, the primary cuts might be there within the Social Science syllabus (around 15% cut).

Please buy latest editions  (2019) of NCERT books. Even examination question patterns have modified a lot. MCQs and Assertion type questions will be introduced.

As far as Secondary and Senior Secondary Curriculum 2019-20 is concerned, the changes notified vide Circular Nos. Acad-3/2019 dated 10.01.2019, Acad11/2019 dated 06.03.2019 and Acad-12/2019 dated 08.03.2019 are incorporated in the respective Curriculum documents.
