The University Grants Commission (UGC) has changed the way students are admitted to undergraduate programmes at central universities. The University Grants Commission (UGC) stated on Monday that starting in the 2022-23 academic year, the Central Universities Entrance Test (CUET) will replace the Class 12 marks-based admissions formula.

CUET is a common entrance exam for all of the country's central universities. It would be necessary for students to take it in order to be admitted to the undergraduate programmes provided by India's 45 central universities.

For the first time, CUET will be held in July of this year. The application procedure will most likely begin in April.

Will the grades from Class 12 be taken into account while applying for undergraduate admissions?

The UGC has not made it essential to incorporate Class 12 grades in admissions; nonetheless, institutions may choose to include Class 12 marks as one of the eligibility or merit factors in their admissions process.

Note that the Delhi University Academic Council has stated that candidates must achieve a minimum of 40% in class 12 to be eligible to take the test. Other central universities have comparable eligibility requirements.

The question material for this entrance exam is expected to be broken into three portions, according to reports. The first will be a reading comprehension, verbal ability, grammar, and other topics-based language test. Assamese, Bengali, English, Gujarati, Hindi, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odiya, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu are among the 13 languages that candidates can pick from.

Depending on the course for which the candidate is applying, the second part will include questions from four domain subjects.

The third section will include questions that will assess the candidate's general knowledge, current events awareness, and logical reasoning skills, among other things. The third will include an optional component that will test the candidate's knowledge of one of the 13+ languages (regional or international as per the graduate course demands).
