How to solve Reading Comprehension Passages?

Section - A of English question papers test your reading skills. Here are the strategies to attempt this section. Before reading a passage, students are suggested to follow the steps listed below.


1. Quickly run through the passage once. This is called skimming.

2. Note all capitalized words, numbers, names, scientific/medical terms.

3. New read the questions and go back to the passage to find the appropriate answers. This strategy is called Scanning.

4. Once you locate the paragraph where you think a particular answer is, read that particular paragraph.

Different crops require different climatic conditions, temperature and photoperiods for their growth and completion of their life cycle. There are some cops which are grown in rainy season, called the kharif crops which extend from June to October. Kharif crops include paddy, soyabean, maize, cotton, green gram and black gram. Rabi crops are grown in the winter season which extends from November to April. Rabi crops include wheat, gram, peas and linseed. The major groups of activities for improving crop yields can be classified as – 
- crop variety improvement, 
- crop production improvement and 
- crop protection management.

Linear Equation

An equation which can be put in the form ax + by + c = 0, where a, b and c are real numbers and both a and b are nonzero is called a linear equation in two variables.

The solution of an Equation
Each solution (x, y) of a linear equation in two variables.

ax + by + c = 0, corresponds to a point on the line representing the equation, and vice-versa.


Pair of Linear Equations in Two Variables

The general form for a pair of linear equations in two variables x and y is
a₁x + b₁y + c₁ = 0
and a₂x + b₂y + c₂ = 0
