Q1: Define leadership.

Answer: Leadership is the process of influencing the behaviour of people at work towards achieving a specific goal. The influence is to get willful cooepration of employees not the forceful cooperation.


Q2: List the features of leadership.

Answer:

1. Its an ability of an individual to influence others.

2. It reflects an interpersonal relationship between leader and its followers.

3. It tries to bring a change in behaviour.

4. It is a ongoing process to achieve a common goal.



Q3: What are the three leadership styles?

Answer

🔘 Autocratic or Authoritarian leader

🔘 Democratic or Participative leader

🔘 Laissez faire or Free-Rein leader



Q4: Describe about Autocratic or Authoritarian leader.

Answer

① Boss centered approach (A is the leader and others are subordinates)

② Only one way communication.

③ Leader gives orders and expects subordinates to obey the orders.

④ Leader is DOGMATIC i.e. does not wish to be contradicted.

⑤ Based on assumption that both reward and punishment can be given.

⑥ Only boss (Supervisor) is responsible for production on time

⑦ Quick decision making.

⑧ Listen to everyone’s ideas but decision will be their own.

Answer: Free rein leadership is effective style when

• Followers are highly skilled, experienced and educated.

• Followers have pride in their work and the drive to do it successfully on their own.

• Outside experts, such as staff specialists or consultants are being used.

• Followers are trustworthy and experienced.
