Poem Summary

This poem is of the Pre-Independence Era where Britishers ruled India. Subramania Bharti is a patriotic and endorses his love by pouring out anger and frustration in this poem. His anguish against the devastation caused and the struggling period Indian peasants & workers were going through is compared by the destruction caused by wind. Wind is metaphorically describing the obstacles or the hindrances that come and destroy a person's life. He starts by requesting the wind not to shatter down everything as it has crumbled so many lives. Wind symbolises the difficulties that are faced in lives.

The story is about a quiet and shy girl named Wanda Petronski, a Polish immigrant, who had come to America with her family. She studied in an American town with American children who found her name to be strange and funny. She was a poor girl, who kept to herself and lived in Boggins Heights. She was always seen wearing a faded blue dress. She didn't have many friends and she used to sit on the backbenches. She always kept a low profile. Her classmates prodded her because she claimed to have a hundred dresses “all lined up” in her closet. But she was always seen wearing a blue one. Peggy and Maddie were her best friends and they used to tease Wanda the most. Peggy was the most famous girl in school while anyone barely knew Wanda.

Due to the disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Central Board of Secondary Education syllabus for classes 9 to 12 has been reduced by 30% for academic year 2020-2021. CBSE tried her efforts to retain core concepts while curtailing the syllabus.

Class 9 - 10
For Class 9 and 10, here is the list of deleted chapters or topics and the revised syllabus.
For Class 10 students, the social science chapter on forests and wildlife in contemporary India has been deleted, along with chapters on democracy and diversity; gender, religion and caste; popular struggles and movements; and, challenges to democracy.

In science, the chapter on the functioning of the human eye has been deleted, along with a section on the basic concepts of evolution. A number of practical experiments have been removed also such as tests on acetic acid, mounting a leaf peel, and studying the comparative cleaning capacity of soap in hard and soft water.
